Gathered, bound, dried

Wrapped by hand, dried for a slow smolder.

Mature sage stems are gathered while the gray-green leaves are still pliable, tied in a crisscross of cotton string and hung to dry. As the leaves dry, their aromatic oils concentrate, so the lit bundle smolders slowly into a fragrant smoke used to cleanse rooms and crystals.

Burning dried sage, known as smudging, is part of many ceremonies and is believed to clear negative energy and purify a space. To cleanse crystals, the smoke is passed over them, a ritual said to clear accumulated energies and reset their vibrations so their natural properties can shine through, restoring balance and harmony.

An abalone shell is a traditional vessel for burning sage during smudging, used by many cultures and especially in Native American traditions. Its iridescent, ocean-bright colors and durable shell make it a symbol of spirituality in ceremony. The shell isn't included with these bundles.
