What is blue spot jasper?
A jasper with spots of its own.
Like all jasper, blue spot jasper is a type of chalcedony, a cryptocrystalline form of silica made of moganite and very fine intergrowths of quartz. Each one forms from natural elements consolidating in silica-rich sediment or volcanic ash, shaped by infused minerals, vegetative growth, weathering and time, so its pattern depends on where it comes from. Some jaspers are banded, some look like pictures and others, like this one, are spotted, which makes jasper an exciting addition to any rock collection.
Jasper is found around the world, with notable deposits in Australia, Brazil, Canada, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Madagascar, Mexico, Russia, Uruguay, Venezuela and the United States, including Arizona, Arkansas, California, Idaho, Oregon, Texas and Washington.
A stone with a long history.
Jasper is one of the most popular stones in history, dating back to the 4th and 5th millennium BC. It is mentioned in the Bible and was used abundantly in medieval times. Some cultures believed it could heal a soul possessed by the devil, green jasper was worn in the 4th century as a remedy for snake bites, and ancient arrowheads, scrapers, knives, axes and stone drills were made from it.
In crystal tradition, blue spot jasper is thought to balance yin and yang energy, promote courage and build inner strength, and to be a calming stone that helps ease anxiety and stress. In crystal energy work it is said to be closely connected with the Third Eye and Throat chakras; the Throat chakra is linked with creativity, communication, self-expression and our connection to our intuitive senses.
Through the ages, crystals and stones have been collected and prized for their timeless beauty, their rich history and their spiritual and metaphysical properties. We believe in the mystical properties of crystals, though nothing we sell comes with any sort of magical guarantee.
