Its deep red to brownish-red color comes from iron oxide, mainly hematite, which forms as small grains and nodules in iron-rich sedimentary rocks such as clays, sandstones and conglomerates. Deposited, compacted and cemented over time, those sediments give every sphere its own vivid pattern.
