Rough red garnet, ready to scatter.

Fingertips holding a few small rough red garnet chips above an abalone shell full of more garnet

50 g lot

A palmful of wine-red chips.

You receive 50 grams (1.7 oz) of rough red garnet, each chip about a quarter to half an inch across. Every piece catches the light a little differently, from deep wine to bright raspberry red.

Pour them into a shell or dish and show them off alongside seashells and other treasures. Ring a larger crystal with them to hold it steady and frame its color; many collectors also believe mini gemstones amplify the larger stone's energy.

More ways to use them

Carry them, grid them, tuck them into your plants.

  1. Carry a few

Keep some in a pocket or pouch and bring them along wherever you go.

  2. Infuse your water

Add them to a Gempod water bottle for gemstone-infused water.

  3. Build a grid

Lay them out in crystal grids, said to enhance energy and intentions.

  4. Dress your altar

Scatter them across a meditation or prayer altar for added beauty.

  5. Ground your plants

Set them at the base of houseplants and zen gardens.

The garnet family

Born under heat and pressure.

Red garnet forms when aluminum-rich sedimentary rock is transformed by intense heat and pressure. It belongs to a large family that includes Almandine, Pyrope, Spessartite, Grossular, Andradite and Uvarovite. Almandine is the most common, and its dark red is the shade most people picture as garnet. Andradite is especially rare, with more sparkle than diamond thanks to its high dispersion, and emerald-green Uvarovite is the rarest of all.

Garnet comes in almost every color of the rainbow except blue, and because the colors overlap, color alone can't identify it. New blends have surfaced in East Africa over the past fifty years, and more may yet be found.

Garnets are found in Europe, the USA (Arizona and New Mexico), South Africa and Australia. The discovery of Bohemian garnet deposits in central Europe around 1500 sparked nearly three centuries of garnet jewelry. Most garnets measure half an inch to an inch across, though almandines from Gore Mountain, New York, reach 23.6 inches (60 cm), and Brazilian spessartites can weigh several pounds with beautiful transparency and rich color.

Passion, vitality and manifestation.

Red garnet is associated with love and friendship. In crystal tradition it is said to bring courage, creative energy, vitality, abundance, flow, change, awareness and emotional balance, and to dissolve ingrained behavior patterns and outworn ideas that no longer serve, bypassing resistance and unconscious self-sabotage.

It is connected with the Root, Sacral and Heart chakras and is said to purify and energize every chakra, kindling inner fire, passion, energy, creativity and love.

In Hinduism and Buddhism, red garnets are believed to bring good luck; in Tibet they are believed to increase longevity, and in China to protect against evil spirits. Known as the Traveler's Stone, garnet is said to have guided and protected Noah as he navigated the Ark. In Greek myth, Hades gave Persephone a pomegranate seed, a symbol of red garnet, to ensure her safe return and signify the healing of lovers' wounds.

Crystals have been prized for centuries for their beauty and believed metaphysical properties; Spirit Magicka makes no guarantee of any mystical or healing effect.
