How it forms
Lava, cooled in a flash.
Snowflake obsidian is a volcanic glass, formed when silica-rich lava cools rapidly. Its white to grayish “snowflakes” are spherulites, clusters of tiny needle-like crystals of the mineral cristobalite, scattered through a black or deep brown body. It is made mainly of silicon dioxide, and iron and magnesium give it its dark color.
A stone of balance and transformation.
In crystal tradition, points are said to amplify energy, enhance clarity, foster spiritual connection, balance energies and aid manifestation.
Snowflake obsidian is known for promoting balance and grounding, integrating mind, body and spirit. It is said to help release negative energy and patterns for emotional healing and personal growth, and to strengthen inner resilience on a journey of self-discovery, encouraging the self-reflection that lets you recognize and release self-limiting beliefs. It is believed to bring clarity of mind and calm in challenging times, increasing self-awareness and insight for conscious choices made with wisdom.
It is associated with the Root chakra, said to ground and stabilize energy, clear blockages and foster a sense of safety, stability and connection to the earth. Throughout history, shamans, priests and spiritual leaders have used snowflake obsidian in rituals and ceremonies, its black-and-white contrast and earth connection making it a powerful tool for connecting with the spiritual realm and journeying between worlds.
Crystals and stones have been prized through the ages for their timeless beauty, rich history and believed metaphysical properties; Spirit Magicka makes no guarantee of any mystical effect.
