Tiger's eye belongs to the quartz group and is made mainly of silicon dioxide. It forms through pseudomorphism: fibrous blue crocidolite is slowly replaced by golden-brown to reddish-brown quartz that keeps the fibers' shape.
Those aligned fibers give the stone its chatoyancy, the "cat's eye effect": a shimmering band of light that moves across the surface as you turn the pyramid.
